Gynaecomastia – the condition known as ‘man boobs’, or worse – is often explained away as the result of a poor diet and little to no exercise. However, this isn’t always the case: we know that the chest area is one of the first parts of the male body to take on and store fat during weight gain, but what explains the lean and fit people who still have breast-like protuberances, which are even more prominent when the rest of their upper bodies are as trim as can be?
Like the changes in voice, the appearance of hair and acne, gynaecomastia can be one of the facts of life for a teenage boy. It’s the medical term for the hard yet tender swelling behind the nipples that give off the impression of breasts, and – like the other symptoms – is brought about by hormonal changes.
In most cases, the condition calms down and eventually goes away as you finish your transformation from boy to man. But sometimes it doesn’t. Which is where we come in.
How do I get rid of man boobs?
Cosmetic surgery – usually a minor liposuction procedure, followed by a removal of the prominent breast tissue – is the simplest and most effective way to reduce the shape and contour of your chest. While there will be scarring around the nipple, it is extremely minor (and eventually undetectable, if you have chest hair).
Gynaecomastia is more a common problem amongst men than you think, but it is treatable. It’s an incredibly simple and a hugely effective procedure, with the bare minimum of time taken out of your day-to-day routine.
