If you’re starting to feel the onset of ageing – or feel it’s time to restore a touch of youthful vitality to your face – there’s a treatment available that lasts longer than Botox and makes a contribution to restoring volume to your face. The treatment is known as dermal fillers, and they can offer a whole heap of benefits.
What are dermal fillers?
The most well-known dermal filler products available are composed of hyaluronic acid – a naturally-occurring substance in the body that we produce in order to self-regulate the skin and keep it moisturised and plump. As we mature, levels of hyaluronic acid start to decrease along with levels of collagen and elastin. The need to artificially boost this additive increases, because our natural supplies gradually diminish – so a dermal filler procedure is a simple ‘topping up’ of something essential that we find harder to produce.
What happens during a dermal filler procedure?
A dermal filler procedure consists of a consultation session, where clients express their desired results, followed by a course of injections in the targeted areas. There may be slight bruising and swelling immediately afterwards, but they can be easily hidden with make-up.
How long do dermal filler results last?
While Botox targets the lines in a client’s face caused by facial expressions, the duration of results lasts from three to six months. Because dermal fillers procedures have less of a job to do and are more of a gradual treatment, the results last for up to 18 months, and in some cases, as long as two years.
